About GdR B2iThe scientific field of the GDR B2i is centered on the materials-biological environment interface in the broad sense. The bio-engineering of interfaces therefore aims to control the physico-chemical properties at the interfaces of materials so as to control their stealth and their specificities: stealth (term borrowed from nanoparticles but also applying here to bulk materials) being defined here as the ability not to cause undesirable reactions and specificity being defined here as the ability to cause a desired reaction. The fields of application of surface bioengineering extend from in vitro biosensors, to biochips, to microfluidics, to biomaterials (implants) with significant challenges in the fields of biomedical, diagnostics, food industry, the factory of the future or environmental monitoring. The GdR B2i is directed by Vincent Humblot assisted by two deputy directors: Luc Vellutini and Yoann Roupioz. The Research Group is made up of 4 thematic axes. Axe 1 - Elaboration de biointerfaces complexes : fonctionnalisation, impression et nano-structurationResponsables d'axe : Florence Bally-Le Gall (IS2M, Mulhouse) et Souhir Boujday (LRS, Paris) Le développement de dispositifs ou biomatériaux innovants en particulier pour des applications biologiques dans des domaines tels que le biomédical, la biodétection ou le biofouling nécessite un contrôle précis des interactions entre les objets biologiques, que sont les biomolécules, les cellules ou les microorganismes par exemple, et la surface du matériau. La composition chimique de la surface du matériau, ses propriétés physico-chimiques et physiques mais également la dimensionnalité de cette surface, notamment son éventuelle structuration à l’échelle micro- voire nanométrique, sont des caractéristiques essentielles à la compréhension et au contrôle des mécanismes d’interaction entre le matériau et son environnement. Axe 2 - Caractérisation des biointerfaces, opportunité et perspectives : vers la caractérisation operando et modélisation in silicoResponsables d'axe : Yann Chevolot (INL, Lyon) et Etienne Dague (LAAS, Toulouse) Axis 3 - Biointerfaces at the heart of medical devicesAxis coordinators: Wilfrid Boireau (FEMTO-ST, Besançon) and Brigitte Grosgogeat (LMI, Lyon) Biomedical engineering uses passive or active devices that are immersed in complex biological environments. All or part of the components of these devices must be designed either to limit their interaction with the biological matrix or to promote a function therein. Axis 4 - transversal action, major challenge: microorganism/surface interactionsResponsables : Lydie Ploux (INSERM, Strasbourg) et Fouzia Boulmedais (ICS, Strasbourg) Axis 4 addresses a question across the 3 axes "Development", "Characterization and modelling" and "Applications" both at the conceptual and technical level. At the crossroads of the fight against infections, the design and characterization of antimicrobial surface performance or surfaces capable of capturing microorganisms, it responds to the emergence of questions relating to microorganism/material interactions in the expert scientific community in the field of interfaces. Questions such as "How to design antimicrobial properties?", "What are the relationships between surface physico-chemical properties and adhesion of microorganisms?" or "Which surfaces for an optimal retention of 'positive' biofilms?" are some examples of the subjects at the heart of the concerns of this theme. |
